Hiring a New Technical Editor for Baeldung

Last August, I published this article here on Baeldung – it was the first job description I ever published on the site.

I good quite a few solid applications and have made a hire relatively quickly; he’s been working with me ever since as the Technical Editor of Baeldung.

Now, it’s time to do it again – and again, I’m reaching out to the community.

I’m looking for a part-time Technical Editor to help and work with new authors.

Who is the right candidate?

First – you need to be a developer yourself, working or actively involved in the Java and Spring ecosystem. All of these articles are code-centric, so being in the trenches and able to code is instrumental.

Second – you need to have your own technical site / blog in the Java ecosystem (or have some similar experience). This site cannot be super-small – a 3-post blog is really not enough to do a good evaluation.

Finally – and it almost goes without saying – you should have a good command of the English language.

What Will You Be Doing?

You’re going to work with authors, review their new article drafts and provide helpful feedback.

The goal is to generally make sure that the article hits a high level of quality before it gets published. More specifically – articles should match the Baeldung formatting, code and style guidelines.

Beyond formatting and style, articles should be code-focused, clean and easy to understand. Sometimes an article is almost there, but not quite – and the author needs be guided towards a better solution, or a better way of explaining some specific concept.

Typical Time Commitment and Budget

The typical number of new articles in any given week is 3 x 1250 word / 4 x 1000 word articles. And the typical article will take about 2 rounds of review until it’s ready to go.

All of this usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes of work for a small to medium article and can take 60 to 90 minutes for larger pieces.

Overall, you’ll spend somewhere around 12-14 hours / month.

The budget for the position is 600$ / month.

Apply

If you think you’re well suited for this work, I’d love to work with you to help grow Baeldung.

Email me at eugen@baeldung.com with your details.

Cheers,

Eugen.
